This page illustrates some of the more unusual Jewels which are in use today as Collar Jewels. This list is not exhaustive and others will be added at a later date.

On November 1st, 1838, it was agreed that " all the jewels belonging to the Lodge should be engraved with the number of the Lodge on each jewel", and that seven new collars were to be purchased, to be worn by the officers. Two of these jewels are still in use - those of the IPM. and Secretary.

This jewel was aquired from Lodge No 155. In the Centenary History it is described as:

'The Square is handsomely chased and embossed; the tools thereon being artistically arranged, making one of the finest specimens of the jeweller's art I have met with, for Lodge purposes. At the angle is a Cherubim, suggesting the "supporters" of the "Ancients," and on the two arms will be seen a Globe, Compasses, Protractor, Chisel, Maul, and Trowel. A shell at either end makes a graceful finish.'

The Hall Mark is A.D. 1802 and the Makers Mark is T.H, indicating that this is a genuine Thomas Harper Jewel. The Inscription on the reverse 'Lodge No 227' means that this was aquired after 1832.

This jewel can be seen resting on the bible in the portrait of W.Bro Peter Thompson hanging in the museum at Freemasons' Hall. The Jewel, with the accompamying compasses, similarly aquired from 'Lodge 155', are still in use today.

This Jewel is worn by the Immediate Past Master and is of an unusual desigm, reminding us of our links to the Antients Grand Lodge. It Represents a Square and Compasses surrounding an Irradiated Sun and is in silver.
Being a pre union jewel it dates from before 1813. The Hall Mark is once again that of Thomas Harper.

The actual date of the Hallmark is currently being investigated.

The Lodge, prior to 1989, never appointed any brother to the office of Chaplain, those duties being undertaken by the Master. It was felt that with the forthcoming Bi-Centenary celebrations in 1989, and as many distinguished guests would be attending the function, that the role of Chaplain should for the first time be filled by an eminent Past Master. W Bro Dennis Lynn was duly appointed and he presented the Lodge with its first ever Chaplain's Jewel at the Installation meeting on 2nd March 1989. Since that date a Chaplain has been appointed each year at the Installation Meeting.

This collar jewel, also in silver, seems to have been aquired sometime around the early 1900's and is unusual in as much that it is actually the collar jewel of a 'Grand' Director of ceremonies. Nothing more is known about how it came to be in the Lodge or from whence it came.
